Reliable energy from a large-scale energy storage facility in Majdan Królewski

Committed to sustainability, the municipality of Majdan Królewski has decided to expand its RES infrastructure. The project involves the construction of a fotovoltaic farm and an advanced energy storage system that effectively manages energy where it is generated.

 

The challenge – defining the problem

The main problem facing the investors was the construction of a RES system ensuring the stability of energy production supplied to the planned energy cooperative. Traditional fotovoltaic farms generate the most energy during the midday hours, when local demand is often not at its highest. This leads to the need to feed surpluses into the grid at unfavourable prices.

 

The application implemented

Apator developed and implemented a comprehensive energy storage system based on LFP technology, which was integrated with the fotovoltaic farm.

A containerised energy storage unit, equipped with an intelligent energy management system (EMS), was utilised. The system was designed to integrate the PV installation and the energy storage unit at the IT level. The EKTIN system with an EMS module was introduced to automate the process of charging the storage system during peak production and discharging it at times of highest demand or highest market prices. The solution was designed to allow for further expansion of management capabilities via the EMS.

 

Benefits of implementation

The implementation of the energy storage facility in Majdan Królewski has yielded tangible results. The utilisation rate of on-site generated energy has been increased. Greater voltage stability has been ensured in the local power system. CO2 emissions have been significantly reduced thanks to the more efficient use of ‘clean’ energy production. The construction of an integrated energy storage system, PV farm and EKTIN is the first step towards establishing an energy cooperative.
