What should you look out for when choosing a softstarter?
Softstarters act as a system for controlling start-up and stop. When selecting a softstarter, the following should be taken into account:
- the expected multiple of the starting current relative to the rated current – this is the current required to start the motor under load;
- start-up duration – the expected time taken for the motor to complete start-up at a limited start-up current;
- start-up frequency – check whether the given duty cycle is suitable for the specific softstarter;
- control system – check which input and output signals are required for the specific application and whether additional optional modules need to be used.
